One day seminar titled “Mapping Indigenous Pakistani Popular Genre”
December 9, 2021
The Department of English (Female Campus) and Iqbal International Institute for Research and Dialogue (IRD) jointly organized a one-day seminar titled “Mapping Indigenous Pakistani Popular Genre” at the Allama Iqbal Auditorium, Faisal Mosque Campus. The aim of the seminar was to foreground the rich but neglected body of popular literature that is being produced in the various languages of Pakistan. The panelists highlighted how indigenous Pakistani popular literature in the form of folk tales, stories of grandparents, popular rhymes and historical fiction provide an insight into a long tradition of gender egalitarianism, female agency and syncretism underpinning our local culture. Indigenous Pakistani popular genre was also seen as providing resources for imagining alternative futures.
