ABOUT THE BOOK
The primary focus of this book is to explore the US-Pakistan relationship during and after Musharraf’s regime and analyze the dynamics, patterns and implications of this relationship on Pakistan’s politics, security, economy and society. A historical overview of the pre-9/11 Pakistan is provided to foster an understanding of the factors held responsible for forcing Pakistan into an alliance partnership. Pakistan’s geostrategic position and its significance in the war on terror are also discussed as major key factors to analyze the facets that provided Pakistan with the opportunity to bargain with the US. As defined earlier, bargaining denotes a cost and benefit analysis in political, strategic, economic and social spheres. The tangible aspects of costs and benefits are analyzed through the data acquired from the government documents and reports including the annual reports of State Bank of Pakistan and Pakistan Economic Surveys. It also includes various reports of Congress Research Service. The non-tangible dimensions are on the other hand discussed through arguments and survey polls related to the study. The pre- and post-9/11, 2001 situation in Pakistan is analyzed comparatively so as to construct a better understanding of the costs and benefits of the US-Pakistan relationship generally and Pakistan particularly.
