ABOUT THE BOOK

Theoretically the thesis is predicated on the Gramscian concept of the civil society; however, it is understood and applied not as Eurpema product, but as a useful intellectual construct that bespeaks humanism, human rights, empowerment of the local eradication of western(ized) “hegemony” the local peoples and products. In addition, in comprehending the state and status of civil society in Pakistan, this study new vistas of intellect and empiricism for the existing literature on the subject is not only in dearth, but skewed in its analyses.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Khalid Saifullah is practitioner and trainer in the development sector. For the last sixteen years, he has been working with the deprived strata of society. He has been endeavoring to promote human rights, education, public health, livelihoods and governance. He has successfully developed and managed more than thirty-five development and humanitarian project funded by philanthropists and international donors.

Khalid has extensive experience in training and supervising. He has facilitated and conducted more than forty training programs for the public, private and not-for-profit sectors. He leaves no stone unturned in performing his duties. He is the author of several articles on public health and water governance. Khalid has worked in Pakistan as well as overseas. He has been engaged with national and international NGOs including the Doaba foundation, the Indus consortium, Oxfam Novib and the Brien Holden Vision Institute.

He has a Master of Philosophy degree in International Development Studies from Iqra University. Being ardent and passionate about effective civil society, he constantly striving to promote civil society activism in Pakistan along with bringing about peace, tolerance and democracy.

He comes from a small town in the Muzaffargarh District and currently lives in Islamabad. He can be reached at [email protected].
