ABOUT THE BOOK

The book presents a critical synthesis on the nature and outcomes of madrassa reform policies pursued by two military governments of Pakistan with contrasting objectives of Islamization and Enlightened Moderation. The book clearly identifies that perplexed global situations prevailed during the Cold War and re-emerged after the 9/11 incident and complex domestic political developments for both the military rulers after dismissing democratic governments of Pakistan brought global powers as well as both the military rulers of Pakistan on one page regarding madrassas of Pakistan in their respective regimes. The central thesis of the book is that the Pakistani state has hardly made any significant efforts to reform madrassas. The projects and plans for madrassas in both regimes were designed to refigure the roles of madrassa students and graduates in order to enable them to render services helpful to prolong the regimes. In an objectives fashion, the author develops a cogent analysis of the half – hearted political efforts towards madrassa reforms.
