ABOUT THE BOOK
The study has focused on early failure of the state and then gradual successes of various regimes to deal with religious extremism in may forms and in multiple areas. It has presented that Malakand division, evaporation of LEJ and general protection of Hazara community had been proved success stories of the state with variation. The themes, which have still not been explored fully, are the subject matter of this study. In this context, the discussion has focused on origin, rise and successful or partial successful dealing with all these issues. All chapters on one side, are complete in individual capacity and on the other side, are inter-linked wherever required. However, general causes, origin of religious extremism in Pakistani society as well as the State’s policy towards religious issues, radicalism and role of the State in deepening religious issues, radicalism and role of the State in deepening religious extremism have been dug out in introduction of the book and specified causes to each and every theme or the chapter have been discussed in those specific chapters.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Dr. Naumana Kiran, Director, Pakistan Study Centre, University of the Punjab, Lahore is Professor of History and Pakistan Studies. She joined the Centre in 2021 and previously served in the Department of History and Pakistan Studies, University of the Punjab, Lahore. She had been awarded with the “Indigenous Ph.D. Fellowship by HEC for completing her Ph.D. and Indigenous PHEC Fellowship for her Post-Doctoral Studies. She has published extensively in national and international journals, encyclopedia and chapters in the books on the themes of Institution of the Federal Cabinet, role of common Muslims in Pakistan Movement, violence against women during partition and migration process in 1947, religious extremism in Pakistan and others. She has presented a number of papers in international conferences on History, South Asia, Asia and Women leadership in various countries of the World including India, Malaysia, Turkey, UK, Australia and America besides Pakistan. Her book The Federal Cabinet of Pakistan: Formation and Working, 1947-1977, had been published from Oxford University Press in 2016 and her second book, People’s Role in Struggle for Pakistan, 1940-1947 from Vanguard Books in 2021. She has organized a number of Seminars, Round-tables, Book-talks, webinars etc. on multiple themes. She has taught several courses to M.A, B.S, M.Phil and Ph.D. and has supervised a good number of theses of M.Phil and Ph.D. Currently, she is working on an Edited book project on Pakistan History, Politics and Society and another book Federal Cabinet of Pakistan, 1977 to 1999 (Second in the Series of Federal Cabinet).
