About the Book
This study aims at looking into the heyday of Muslim civilization, identifying real causes for its decline hence decline of science and technology at the hands of Muslims, factors for the European advancement in science and technology, and suggesting ways to breathe life into Muslims’ role in the contemporary advancement of the knowledge as a whole. The methodology applied in this study is a critical analysis of the data and views of scholars on the issues concerned.
About the Authors
Engr. Prof: Dr. Ahmed Shuja Syed is currently serving as the Vice President (Research & Enterprise) at International Islamic University, Islamabad. He is also the Founding Executive Director of the Centre for Advanced Electronics & Photovoltaic electrical& electronic Engineering (CAEPE). Prof. Shuja holds MS and Ph.D. in Electrical & Electronic Engineering from Sweden and UK; respectively. He developed a pioneering teaching and research program, in Pakistan, in the area of Advanced Electronics in 2007. As guest scientist and visiting professor, he maintained close collaborative linkages with some of the world-renowned scientific facilities including the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, USA and James Watt School of Engineering at University of Glasgow, UK. He is also a member of various national level fora and has a track record of working closely with national and international bodies. Besides being an active researcher in the broader areas of Advanced Electronics, Prof. Shuja’s interests lie in the contemporary debates on the philosophy of science and religion and various discourses of knowledge creation.
Dr. Musterah Mehfooz is an Assistant Professor of Islamic Studies, Department of Humanities, at the COMSATS University Islamabad, Lahore Campus. She obtained her Master’s and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Punjab. Her recent postdoctoral research project related to religion and science hosted by the Islamic Research Institute of IIUI. Her other postdoctoral project concerned Hadith Sciences, which was hosted by the Social Sciences University, Ankara, Turkey. Dr. Musferah’s core research interests include: reconciliation and sustainable relations among the people of Abrahamic faith; Sufis’ teachings, Interfaith Conflict Analysis, Islam and Science; Qur’an and Gender Studies; Rhetorical aspects of the Qur’an, and comparative study of civilizations. She published more than 50 research articles in national and international journals.
